HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

UMCGF has been active in Habitat for many years, working in a variety of areas. Our church continues to need 3 volunteers on the 3rd Saturday of the month to work on Habitat projects. For each habitat home that is dedicated, our church has provided a quilt, providing warmth and symbolizing the warmth of the caring community.Others are invited to join the efforts to help provide simple decent homes for those in need. To get involved talk to Sandy Beall, Alan Ganong, Frank Denton or others who are already involved. In addition to persons with construction skills, Habitat even has a place for those with other skills or who wish to learn more about building.

JO ANN KOE SUNDAY

April 28th is Jo Ann Koe Sunday. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Belinda Forbes, a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries serving in Managua, Nica-ragua. Dr. Forbes works with Christian Medical Ac-tion, a Nicaraguan Christian ecumenical organization specializing in community health and development in impoverished, rural communities, many of which are indigenous. Dr. Forbes serves God by coordinating a community-based, primary dental health program. Following the service there will be a potluck luncheon in Jo Ann Koe Hall.

HOME REPAIR MISSION TRIP

This summer’s trip will take place July 21 - 27. We will once again be going to Prattsville, NY, located in the northern Catskills. The town was devastated by the flood waters that came with Hurricane Irene. We had a great experience last year and hope to once again help this community that is still recovering. We’ll be staying in the dormitory building of the Huntersfield Christian Training Center, located in Prattsville (one of the nicest facilities we have ever stayed at). There will be work for all skill levels. Rebuilding (including demolition, repair, and new construction) is still happening, and there are many jobs to do. This is a great opportunity to show our Christian love for our neighbors! Registration forms will be available soon. Contact person is Sandy Beall (860-464-7997).

Stephen Ministry

Doug Wright completed his Stephen Ministry training in April, 2012. On Sunday, May 13th, he was commissioned a Stephen Ministry Leader. Training  of members of the congregation who have heard the call to minister to others in their time of need has now been completed.  For more information about Stephen Ministry, you can connect with Doug by calling the church office at 860-464-7407, and there is printed material available. We are thankful for this new opportunity to serve others.

MISSIONARY SUPPORT

We are pleased, at UMCGF, to sponsor a United Methodist missionary in Nicaragua, through the General Board of Global Ministries. Dr. Belinda Forbes, a dentist, is committed to serving those in need, sharing her skills with people who otherwise could not have proper care. For more information about Dr. Forbes, or to read her most recent newsletter, click here.
