New Membership Classes

NEW MEMBER/NEW DISCIPLE ORIENTATION:  Are you interested in learning more about our church?  Are you thinking about joining?  We have a “New Member/New Disciple” orientation scheduled monthly.  If you are interested please let the office or Pastor Yunki know, office@umcgf.org, 860-464-7407, pastoryunki@umcgf.org. In orientation we discuss Our Wesleyan Heritage, Grace and Discipleship, Our Wesleyan Ways, and Living Out Discipleship, and your questions about the church are answered. It will also be an opportunity for the pastor and new members to share their faith stories. After the four sessions, those who desire to do so may officially join the church during one of the following Sunday services. For this monthly recurring opportunity, you can sign up during the last two weeks of each month through the church office or by emailing Pastor Yunki at PastorYunki@umcgf.org.

Prayer Shawl.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry initiated in 1998 by two women graduates of the Hartford Seminary.  The Gales Ferry United Methodist Church has participated in this Ministry since 2007.  This Ministry consists of a group of knitters/crocheters who gather on a monthly basis.  The shawls are given to those who are grieving a loss, undergoing surgery or medical treatments or illness.  Baptismal blankets are also made and given to families at baptism.  A prayer/blessing is said prior to giving the shawl to a recipient.  This Ministry also provide a time for fellowship.  There is an opportunity for knitters to knit at home if unable to attend the gatherings, All are welcome.

Book Club

The book discussion group began in 2007.  A book is selected and read each month followed by a group discussion.  The group meets year round with special events during the year.

The book topics  vary from non-fiction, historical fiction, spiritual, biographical/autobiographical.  It is a great time to share the love of reading and to be in fellowship with others.
